GSM Controller User Manual (PDF)

The GSM Controller allows a person with only a cellphone (GSM communications) to receive SMS alerts, control the Sublethal Remote Gun system, control 4 outputs, and receive information about the system.

Setting up the GSM Controller with the Sublethal Remote Gun

What does the GSM Controller do?

You have a Sublethal Remote Gun but you want to control it while relaxing on the beach in Thailand. Not a problem. Set up a GSM controller, plug it into the Sublethal Remote Gun, connect a few sensors to the GSM Controller and you are sorted.

TYPICAL OPERATION:

  1. Alarm is triggered, the GSM Controller sends you an SMS
  2. You call the GSM Controller, a normal voice call
  3. The GSM Controller answers with a “beep”
  4. You enter your 4 digit pin code
  5. The GSM Controller confirms with another “beep”
  6. You enter commands like “4” (move left) or “5” (shoot)

Control the Sublethal Remote Gun without video

The GSM network (cellphone voice network) is great because it is more reliable than WiFi/3G/4G/LTE and available more widely, keep in mind that many Sublethal products are used far from cities. So the GSM Controller uses the GSM network for reliability and has features which allow you to control the Sublethal Remote Gun blind, such as presets. Presets allow you to save a gun position, for example:

  • you install a door sensor that triggers alarm zone 1 on the GSM Controller
  • you save Preset 1 to point the gun above the door (as a warning shot)
  • when that zone is triggered you will get an SMS that zone 1 (the door) has been triggered
  • you call the GSM Controller and command the gun to move to Preset 1 (which is one button press on your phone)
  • the Sublethal Remote Gun moves to Preset 1, pointing above the door
  • you press "5" which is the command to shoot. The Sublethal Remote Gun fires a warning shot above the door.

What about the video feed?

To get a video feed remotely of where the Sublethal Remote Gun is pointing you must:

  • connect the Sublethal Remote Gun camera into a DVR/NVR (CCTV recorder)
  • connect the DVR/NVR to the internet
  • set the DVR/NVR for remote viewing
  • watch the video feed from your phone/laptop/tablet from a web browser or the app of the DVR/NVR manufacturer

Here there are different ways of doing things:

  • If you are watching the video from a laptop, use your phone to control the Sublethal Remote Gun via the GSM Controller.
  • If you are using a smart phone, use a split screen to view the video in one app and control the Sublethal Remote Gun using the normal caller app.
  • If you are using a not-so-smart phone, then you can control the Sublethal Remote Gun via the GSM Controller and view the video on a tablet, laptop, desktop, a smart phone or any other device connected to the internet.

Note that there are many ways to connect the Sublethal Remote Gun camera to the internet. You could also get the camera upgraded to an IP camera, then connect that directly to a router. Your friendly CCTV installer can assist with this and other ways. The standard camera on the Sublethal Remote Gun is an analogue camera and there is an upgrade to an IP camera available.

Using the GSM Controller without the Sublethal Remote Gun

The advantage of using the GSM controller is that you can reliably monitor remote sensors and control devices from anywhere in the world that there is cellphone reception. Automate your house, farm, shop, warehouse at a fraction of the cost or complication of other devices.

Typical uses for the GSM Controller in stand alone mode:

  • Vacant property in a remote location: when intruders (human or other) trigger the alarm, then activate one of the GSM Controller outputs connected to a pepper spray dispenser. The property fills with pepper spray.
  • Boat: Warn off intruders with a siren/ pepper spray when they climb onto your boat.
  • Switch on/off floodlights on a perimeter
  • Open an automatic gate
  • Unlock your house/ shop door
  • Turn on/off your geyser/ water immersion heater
  • Turn on your swimming pool automatic cleaner
  • Feed livestock or pets while away
  • Turn on/off a water pump, borehole pump, irrigation pump, monitor water level with the alarm inputs

The GSM Controller stand alone mode features:

  • monitor 4 alarm zones, send the user an SMS when the alarm zone is triggered
  • control 4 outputs, such as flood light, pepper spray, automatic gate, sprinklers, smoke generator, water pump, borehole pump, fridge, aircon, etc.

To use in stand alone mode you will need a 12V 2A power supply, available at any security store. For locations without electricity, a standard 12v 7Ah battery with 10W solar panel and solar charge controller will work.
